Kitchenless

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. After three months without a kitchen we finally have a sink with running water. No stove or (permanent) refrigerator yet, but paint is going on the walls. I took this picture two months ago when I was grilling at the beginning of the week […]

Emerald Isle

Last month we made the annual trip to Emerald Isle, NC. I think this was the 31st summer my family and two others have spent the week together on the same stretch of sand. A few years ago one of Brooke’s best friends coincidentally moved to the area. So, we now spend more than a […]

House Blessing

Our house had been in the previous owner’s family for 60 years. Two years ago when we bought the home they left behind this house blessing. I’m sure it was hard for them to leave, and giving us the framed blessing was very thoughtful. Over the past two months we’ve been gutting and rebuilding the […]

Morning Sickness

Brooke had hangover symptoms for two-months without the pleasure of drinking. And not just in the morning but all day. In other words, we’re pregnant. Or Brooke is pregnant. I like to say “we” because I want to show I’m engaged in the process, but I also don’t like to say “we” since only one […]

Sidewalk Chalk

Our nephew Jacobi is learning to spell. He definitely knows his letters. With a little help he was able to write everyone’s name at our Mother’s Day bar-b-que on Sunday. He was even able to write C-H-A-N-N-I-N-G. You can see it just below his toes. And his hand-writing is almost as good as mine.

Tulum

Zev contacted me well in advance to invite Brooke and I to his and Maureen’s Mexico wedding. Zev is also a wedding photographer (a very talented one) and knows our calendars fill up quickly. He also specifically told me not to bring my camera. I appreciate the sentiment, but I promptly ignored him. However, I […]

Home

My parents live outside Charlotte. Both their children and grandchildren live in Massachusetts and have never lived in Charlotte. We get to spend a week in Emerald Isle, NC with them, and since my sister and I married Yankees that means the best chance for everyone to spend Christmas morning together is if Mom and […]

Winter

For 10 years now I’ve lived in relentlessly cold climates. I’ve heard from others about winter hobbies and their importance to get through months of ice and darkness. But I never implemented what I learned from those with snowshoes. Hunkering down and returning to the human race once you remember what grass looks like is […]

PVD

Was this our 4th trip to Providence? I think it was. Each year a few Boston photographers head south to meet up with our Rhode Island brethren in these winter months when our schedules are more manageable (previous trips documented here and here). We always start at the RISD museum, but this year we were there for 30 […]

Goodbye

Brooke and I met in this car. Sort of. There was a three-month e-mail courtship before she picked me up at the airport and drove me to a job interview two hours away. We’ve filled up the tiny cargo space with presents and spent several Christmas mornings driving between families in this car. When the […]
