Shaun and David know how to plan a wedding. They boiled everything down to the most important elements and focused an entire evening on long conversations and quality time with their closest friends and family. Shaun and David also really wanted to share their city with all their guests. There are few locations that do this as well as the Boston Public Library. It was truly beautiful. Congratulations, Shaun and David!

Peyton and Chris

Here’s a sneak peak of Peyton and Chris’ wedding this past weekend in South Carolina. A full wedding post will be up in the next few weeks. I’m just hoping a small piece of this wedding’s huge spirit comes through in the photos. The whole weekend was amazing.

9tailors

It was so fun the first time, we did it again. A couple of weeks ago I spent a few days with 9tailors exploring downtown and the seaport district. Thank you to Sam, Alex and Austin for making sure everything ran smoothly. And thank you to all the stylish 9tailor clients (including cameos by the Patriots’ Sergio Brown and Jermaine Cunningham) for making it look so easy to look so good. Although I guess it is easy. Wear clothes that fit.

Cooking Matters

In March I traveled to Maryland, Arkansas and Colorado for Cooking Matters. The organization teaches families to make better decisions while grocery shopping and preparing meals. Cooking Matters wanted to see the impact of their classes, so I traveled with an independent researcher to observe graduates grocery shopping and making meals in their kitchens. Participants learn how to read and understand nutrition labels as well as identify foods that are convenient, affordable, and most importantly healthy. Something so simple can be so important in giving children a better chance to succeed. I learned a lot from my time around these wonderful families, and I’m so happy to have been a part of this project.

Anna

It had been about a year and a half too long since I last saw Brenna, Steve, and their adorable daughter Anna. A lot can change in that time. Anna just turned 4 and instead of a home-made surfboard, this time the main prop was Steve’s new motorcycle. Brooke came with me on this one, so after hanging around the house and the beach we went to downtown Portsmouth for dinner and to learn Anna likes jazz. Oh, and if it’s not in your blog reader yet, be sure to start following Brenna’s work. I don’t have a kid, and I’m not a woman, but it’s still one of my favorite blogs.

Mile High

Instead of coming home after my Cooking Matters shoot in Arkansas, I went straight to Colorado where my next shoots would be a few days later. Brooke joined me for a weekend in Denver and instantly suspended my home-sickness for a couple of days. Flying straight to Denver also gave me a few consecutive nights of sleep without catching an early flight. We mainly lounged and watched Downton Abbey in our hotel room, but we also managed the energy to eat at Snooze (3 times), visit Boulder, and make a pilgrimage to Room and Board.

I suppose I could have flown home to then turn around and fly back a day later, but there is something wonderful about existing in that rare space and time of neither-here-nor-there. Similar to our mini winter reprieve last year, it’s just nice to be in a place and under circumstances that don’t demand anything of you or your expectations.

Esme and David

Esme and David traveled to Mexico to wed in the enchanted city of Oaxaca. Their families and closest friends joined them for a weekend of wonderful food, beautiful backdrops, perfect weather, and great company. Esme and David live in California, so I didn’t meet them until I was on a Oaxaca-bound plane with both of their families. However, I was immediately treated like one of the clan. So, I not only came back with a set of vibrant images to liven up my grey New England spring, but I also left with some wonderful new friends. I love my job.

I can’t think of a better way to kick off the 2012 wedding season than to be a part of Melissa and Donny’s wedding at the Bedford Village Inn. Melissa and Donny are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Their families were just as nice and their friends made sure the dance floor was packed. Melissa warned me I might want to bring a helmet. Although there were a couple of close calls, nobody’s enthusiastic dance moves caused me any head trauma. Congratulations, Melissa and Donny!
