Homebody

I have an amazing capability to stay at home for days without ever leaving. And even when I do leave I like to behave like I’m at home. Brooke and I went to Las Vegas for a conference this past weekend, and it crossed my mind that maybe I wouldn’t even have to leave the hotel.

That would be a bad idea. But it was my first idea. I forget that seeing new things and meeting new people are important to me. My love for home keeps me from ever seeing that until I’m actually out there.

We had a wonderful time in the desert. We saw old friends and made some new ones. And I love a spectacle. So, I love Las Vegas.

I also like leaving Las Vegas.

Declan

Sarah Lyn was a bridesmaid in Emily and Matt’s wedding in September. That’s how I came to spend a beautiful afternoon with her husband Peter and their adorable son Declan. We let Declan set the tone and just hung out around the house documenting this special time in their lives. I’m imagining Declan looking at these pictures one day and having no doubt just how much his parents love him.

Rover

Two weeks ago I spent the evening with the Harvard University seniors that developed the “The Unofficial Guide to Life at Harvard” app on the iPhone. They were really generous with their time, and it was fun hanging out with them all. You can read the Wall Street Journal story here. And if you ever find yourself looking for a place to eat or drink in Cambridge, you can download the app here.

Phyllis - Great choice of a picture that illustrates article content–two people eating together and looking at a screen instead of each other. I’m thinking about the article’s implications for a middle school English teacher.February 25, 2010 – 6:33 am

Painting

More than a year ago I met Sarah when I was doing an assignment for Dana-Farber. She was assigned to drive me around in a golf cart as I took pictures at a tournament. In addition to escaping death-by-golf-ball, we also had lots of time to talk about music, careers, passion, you know, life. I hadn’t talked to Sarah since, but a couple of weeks ago my wife sent me a link to Sarah’s new project and website.

Brooke and I have thought about painting our apartment since we moved in two years ago, and we thought hiring Sarah to come help was the perfect way to finally get things moving. Scheduling a time for Sarah to come over meant we had to paint, which was enough of a contribution. But, getting to talk and laugh with Sarah during an otherwise mundane task was the best part.

If you have any projects that need tackling, you’ll want to talk to Sarah.

Megan - Do you think Sarah could come to Sydney? Maybe around May? When I’ve got a newborn? ;)February 23, 2010 – 11:27 pm

nancy - um, this sounds fantastic!!!!February 23, 2010 – 5:13 pm

Flaky

For the first time in my life I sat for hours at an airport praying for snow. I was assigned to document Logan’s hi-tech snow removal operations Wednesday, but unfortunately the snow didn’t accumulate until after deadline. Instead of riding shotgun in a Vammas, I attended the snow planning meetings before spending the next few hours waiting in a conference room up in the tower. Luckily the view wasn’t bad.

You can read more about Logan’s impressive snow-removing machines here.

Christina - What an interesting assignment. Love the view and the the map.February 12, 2010 – 2:07 pm

Show Me

Two weeks ago I took a trip to Kansas City to see my dear friends Adam and Melissa (and Brent!). Eating and drinking is usually the only thing on my travel itineraries, but this time my hosts sweetened the reunion with a Boulevard Brewery tour (Melissa worked her magic to by-pass the 4-month waiting list), a trip to the newfangled Power and Light district, and a night of bar-b-que. Oklahoma Joe’s not only had the best bar-b-que I’ve ever ordered from a gas station, but it had some of the best bar-b-que I’ve ever had. Thanks, Adam and Melissa, for taking care of your old friend.

Josh Behan - My friend works for Boulevard. I had their IPA when I was in KC. Amazing beer.February 19, 2010 – 8:26 pm

Clear Flour Bread

One of the finest pleasures in life is freshly baked bread. And nobody does it better around here than Clear Flour. Don’t be shy to try their sweets either. I’m partial to the morning buns, rustic tarts, and their simple but perfect chocolate chip cookie. If you leave now you’ll see me there.

Channing - You’re my other favorite baker in Boston, Dawn : )February 8, 2010 – 3:41 pm

Channing - I thought you might like that, Lara!February 8, 2010 – 3:40 pm

Winner: Best of 2009

Congratulations to Jessica and Jesse for winning the Best of 2009 contest! I love this moment of Jessica walking down the stairs of her parents’ house. As someone mentioned in the comments, this picture combines the “past and the looming (yet wonderful) future, all in one picture”.  I also like the lines of the banister and picture frames leading into the windows, or Jessica’s illuminated new life with Jesse. Is that stretching it a little? Ok, a sweet moment, regardless : )

Jessica and Jesse live in New York City so they have assured me they’ll be taking their $200 American Express gift card and squandering it on a delicious dining experience. I’m sure they’ll be able to find something suitable in the city : ) And if you’re going to be up late tonight, check out Jesse and his band on the Jimmy Fallon show. As if winning CJP’s best of 2009 wasn’t enough for one day!

Lastly, thank you to all my wonderful clients I got to know last year. You are constant reminders of how lucky I am to do what I do. Taking pictures is fun, but making new friends is the best.

Channing - Thanks, Patty! You’re hilarious : )February 3, 2010 – 12:46 pm

Patty - Congrats to these two! Such beautiful pictures, all of them. I really do stare at mine all the time, and sometimes I even burn dinner because of it. Thank you Channing, for being awesome.February 2, 2010 – 6:48 pm

Vermont

Jamie - I love, love, love the photo of the house. I need to share these photos with Ryan’s family – they love that place, and I don’t think there are many pictures of it.
Thank you for sharing these!February 23, 2010 – 3:16 pm
