License to Wed

Brooke and I stopped by the Brookline Town Hall to pick up our marriage license this morning.  No, we’re not married yet.  Getting married twice is enough.  Three times would just be silly.

Planning Session

Brooke and I went to her Dad’s a day early for Easter to get some wedding planning done.  We’ve stolen a lot of ideas from those who have walked down the aisle before us.  One of the many is having our guests do a little artwork on the back of their reply cards.  It’s been exciting to get the mail lately.

Another idea Brooke picked up somewhere was to use sticky notes for planning our reception seating arrangements.  Luckily it wasn’t as difficult as we thought it might be.  The sticky notes made it simple to make changes to combinations that came together relatively easily anyway.

That was the last big task.  From here on out it’s just a bunch of little ones. I think.

Hair Did

Yesterday Brooke went to what I think was her last hair trial before the wedding.  She had to run back into the house to grab her veil.  Here’s a few other hair trial pictures from January that I published on the old blog

This is also a good time to make a clumsy segue into how I recently became a man. I’m not exactly what you would call “handy”, so repairing the rip in the screen door, below, and replacing the door-closer was a big deal for me.  I even used a drill.  After I was finished I just stood there in awe of my accomplishment.

It was in that moment a deep calm came over me.  It was finally time for me to become a husband.

Head Over Heels

Here’s the musical accompaniment for this picture.  There’s also a monkey in a Red Sox jersey in the second half of the video.  Who knew?

Bouquets and Bullets

I always knew that Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen had a lot in common with Brooke and I.  But this is crazy: We’re getting married twice, too!

On Friday the 24th we’re doing a small religious ceremony with just our families (and God).  This way we can have the Saturday ceremony and reception all in one place for the convenience of our guests.  Testifying our love and commitment to one another in front of our friends and family as a whole is very important to us, so we’ll be doing it again on Saturday in its entirety.  We might switch up some readings, but there will be blessings, witness, rings, and, of course, a kiss.

One thing we hope there won’t be is gunfire.  Very tacky, Mr. and Mrs. Brady.

Below, I’m trying on the $750 suit I found on sale for $150 at Lord and Taylor.  Eat your heart out, Tom.

Phyllis - No gunfire indeed! Especially at photographers!April 10, 2009 – 6:02 am

yoon - you are a hot man.

Patty and Anthony

If you ask me, the best light of the day is at sunrise.  But, when I told Patty and Anthony that 6:30 a.m. would be a possible time to do their engagement portraits, I didn’t expect them to think that was a good idea.  I’m lucky they did.  Not only were Patty and Anthony absolutely delightful to be around, but it might be a little while before I can find another couple to get up that early with me.  I think it paid off.

Waking up before the sun also means you have a good chance of eating breakfast at The Paramount before the line is out the door.  By the time the rest of Boston was waking up, the three of us were starving and needed some sausage and french toast to help get our second wind.

Patty and Anthony live in Dallas but decided to do their engagement portraits in Boston for something a little different.  Anthony has been working here for the past few months, and they have grown to love the city.  They still love Texas, of course, and were so thoughtful to bring me a gift basket with all their favorite things from back home: Stubb’s BBQ sauce, chili mix, salsa, sweet tea, and even a cowboy hat wall-hanger.

Looks like I’m going to have to get me a cowboy hat : )

Channing - Thanks, Myndi! Patty and Anthony also brought a lot of enthusiasm and energy for that early in the morning. 21 days, 14 hours, 7 minutes, 40 seconds

I’m getting married soon. There are lots of little things that Brooke and I need to get done, but so far the great weight of this life event hasn’t rested completely on our shoulders. This is due to the wonderful people around us who are pitching in their time and expertise to help us make the wedding fun and beautiful without putting ourselves into debt. Or at least long-term debt : )

Below Brooke contemplates floral arrangements that our friend Steph is helping us purchase and arrange. Steph is earning herself a V.I.P. spot at our sweetheart table for all her hard work and for the piles of money she is saving us. It’s the least we can do.

Keep checking back here during the next 21 days to see how our last-minute wedding planning is progressing.

Suzy Hooker - Awww Channing…so many congratulations!! I didn’t know you were getting married so soon…I must admit, that notion sends me reeling with nostalgia of when we were all teenagers and I knew you well…and I am so happy to see how wonderful you’re doing, and what a lovely life you seem to have acquired for yourself. My best wishes for a lifetime of love and laughter. Dog. Dogasaurus Rex. Not anymore, huh? Dogs don’t have wives. So I guess that chapter is over now. Well done, Brooke.April 8, 2009 – 11:34 pm
