Tess and Jared

I have a bunch of weddings in November and December I’m looking forward to, but Saturday marks the end of my main wedding season (I’ve taken the last two weekends in October off to be a wedding guest and celebrate Brooke’s 30th birthday!). I can’t think of a better way to end an amazing season than with a trip up to Vermont to photograph Tess and Jared’s fall wedding. Here’s a few from their engagement session along the waterfront last year.

Tess and Jared » Channing Johnson Photography - […] about being nervous shooting other photographers weddings, but I was particularly anxious about Tess and Jared’s wedding. I looked up to Jared when I quit my job and came to Boston to freelance. I am still […]November 10, 2011 – 12:13 pm

Delia and Jeff

In 1996 Delia was elected to the homecoming court and took me with her. She made her own dress. We skipped the dance and a bunch of us piled into my 1991 Hyundai Excel 4-speed hatchback to go see Trainspotting. Fifteen years later Delia invited me to her wedding. She made her own dress again. In fact, she and her friends and family made everything (the bridesmaid dresses, the flowers, the decorations, the signs, the food, the cake, the favors, the invitations . . . everything). And this time Jeff was there. Jeff is a smart, hilarious, thoughtful guy who I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know over the past couple of years. They compliment each other wonderfully, and I love being around them. I also learned I love being around their friends. I hope these pictures come anywhere near the feeling of their classy picnic-themed wedding at an old mill in Salt Point, NY. Congratulations, Delia and Jeff!

Also, check out this awesome short clip from the wedding made by bridesman Ryan Kravetz.

Staci and Dave

I overuse the word fun, but I really don’t know how else to describe Staci and Dave. You’ll understand a little more when I tell you that they spent the first few days of their honeymoon on North Carolina’s Barbeque Trail. That alone is all I really needed to know before I decided to like them, but spending a whole day among all their friends and family really sealed the deal. Hopefully some of these pictures from their wedding at Tupper Manor in Beverly will begin to convey the beauty of their wedding day.

Alex and Randolph

Alex and Randolph had their ceremony at St. Michael’s in Marblehead before celebrating with friends and family along the water at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Alex wore a beautiful dress that her grandmother made for her mother’s wedding day. Randolph is a fellow southerner, and I loved the merging of cultures in this otherwise quintessential New England wedding. My favorite moment was at sunset when the guests all gathered around to watch the bride and groom fire the cannon. Just before the magnificent boom, Randolph yelled “The South will rise again!” My ears were ringing, and I couldn’t stop laughing. Congratulations, Alex and Randolph!

Josh Behan - Unbelievable photos and even better storytelling. Wow.October 2, 2011 – 10:29 pm

The Family Genome

I got an assignment from the Wall Street Journal last week to photograph Anne West at Wellesley College. She is studying her family’s genome to find unusually specific information about her and her family’s health, including the likelihood of certain diseases. You can read the full story here.

Mimi - Ooh, that’s a nice shot of Wellesley’s academic quad! I like how the light filters through the trees.September 27, 2011 – 8:59 pm

Doug - Nice shot! And wicked cool to get a chance to shoot for the WSJ!September 23, 2011 – 9:27 am

9tailors

Are you surprised that I do fashion? Me too. But, I might need to broaden my scope after a really fun two-day shoot with Samantha and Kathryn from 9tailors. They did a great job of organizing everything and picking some of their most stylish clients who were also a lot of fun to work with. I should also say here that I’m not only the 9tailors 2011 fall fashion shoot photographer . . . I’m also a client. If you’ve ever seen me at a wedding and couldn’t quite put a finger on why I looked so dashing, now you know it’s the suit. Amazing things happen when clothes fit.

Amy and Gabe

I had a great time exploring with Amy and Gabe in their Jamiaca Plain neighborhood. They are due in November and wanted some pictures of this unique time in their lives. I was interested in recording a hint of what their life looks and feels like now. I can also see their daughter looking back at these pictures years later and getting a sense of just how excited her parents were for her arrival. I’ll look forward to meeting her at the wedding of Caitlin and Pete (Amy’s sister and future brother-in-law) next year. Can’t wait!

Ashley O'Dell - That last shot may be the most genius maternity photo ever!September 23, 2011 – 11:39 pm

Brenna - I love these, but where’s the mom wrapped in gauze/shirtless dad kissing the belly shot?

That was mean. These are beautiful. I wish I was coherent enough when pregnant to take some photos like this.September 22, 2011 – 10:55 am

Stacey and George

Stacey and George have great taste. They did a wonderful job of incorporating their interests and personalities into their wedding at the Harry Parker Boathouse in Brighton. I had a lot of fun with Stacey and George. I wasn’t there long before I felt like I was at a friend’s wedding.

nikki - what a dashing dress!September 22, 2011 – 6:54 pm

Stacey - Channing you nailed it! So many of them made us laugh out loud and remember all the awesome moments throughout the day. We absolutely LOVE them!! Thank you!September 21, 2011 – 9:59 pm

Alisha and Rohan

Pritesh’s parents, Jaishree and Vijay, were visiting from Zambia last month. Since they can’t visit their grandchildren as much as they like, Pritesh and his wife Glendalys thought it would fun to get pictures of them all spending an afternoon together. I agree. Pritesh’s sister who lives near-by was also able to join us. We let Alisha and Rohan set the tone, and then we just did our best to keep up. It was the perfect late summer evening.

Jared Leeds - These are great Channing! They put a smile on my face.September 12, 2011 – 4:42 pm

Christine and Matt

Irene Schm-Irene. Christine and Matt weren’t going to let a little ole (read: massive) storm get in the way of a good time with all their friends and family. Although they had to scrap the beach wedding, the ceremony and reception at the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset were beautiful and a lot of fun. Christine and Matt are also news photographers who do weddings. You know I get nervous shooting other photographers weddings, but Christine and Matt and all their friends were so welcoming I quickly felt comfortable and at home. Congratulations, Christine and Matt!

We are so fortunate to have you as our wedding photographer! Your photography captured the true essence and excitement of this very special day in our lives!
