Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime

I romanticize vacation spots in their off-seasons (this might be why). Relaxation for me often comes in solitude, so going to places like Martha’s Vineyard in the summertime would be a mixed blessing. Beautiful but spoiled. Going when no one else is there feels like you’re witnessing something you’re not supposed to. It’s still beautiful, but you don’t feel like you’re sharing it. Although the real reason I like these places in the wintertime might be sour grapes. I don’t have the money or schedule to go when everyone else does : )

My good friend Brett traveled from Kentucky to Martha’s Vineyard last weekend for his work. Brooke and I made it an excuse to take a little trip. It was beautiful. And I can’t wait to take more trips this winter. I feel sorry for all those people who have to vacation when it’s warm out.

addiejean - Love the last one. When I used to live on the cape in the summer, and then would visit in the winter I appreciated the quiet and how everything looked different but still really beautiful. Nice job capturing that feeling :)January 2, 2011 – 6:13 pm

Kate and Joe

After hanging out with Kate and Joe in Providence I knew we were a great fit. And I love Vermont, so their fall wedding in Grafton was one of the weddings I was looking forward to most this year. I wasn’t disappointed. The drive up there was filled with bursts of orange and red, and the people I got to hang out with that day were extremely friendly and fun. I can’t think of a better way to bring a close to CJP’s peak wedding season. Congratulations, Kate and Joe!

Alyssa Boyko - It was a wonderful celebration and these pictures really tell the story! Congratulations Kate and Joseph!November 10, 2010 – 4:36 pm

Dan Stewart - I like the last shot. Great texture and unique!November 10, 2010 – 2:50 pm

Erin and Keith

The first newspaper I worked at was in Midland, Michigan. I was particularly looking forward to working with Erin and Keith because that is where they grew up and met. It was a lot of fun to wander around downtown and the North End with them. We mainly just explored, but we did make a point to stop by the restaurant where Keith proposed. Erin and Keith are getting married in Michigan next year. I’m glad I got to spend some time with good people from the homeland (my professional homeland, at least!).

Emily Hansen - Channing, you did a beautiful job capturing a great couple! Glad you got to work with them. I especially love the two last ones and the one with the bird :)December 9, 2010 – 6:49 pm

Politics

Last month I worked on a story for the Wall Street Journal that explored voter impatience. Is two years all you get to solve long-term problems? The reporter and I went to a debate in Concord and talked with other New Hampshire residents in Manchester about their thoughts on the pendulum swing between elections. You can see the full story here.

Brett - don’t forget the struggle.
don’t forget the streets.
and don’t forget your roots!
nice work big baby.November 5, 2010 – 11:29 am

Veronica and J.P.

I’ve been looking forward to Veronica and J.P.’s wedding ever since getting to know them during their engagement session. I was glad to see them blessed with a beautiful fall day for their ceremony and reception at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. The hotel has some of the best views of Boston, and it was neat to see the light and perspective change as the evening went on. Veronica and J.P.’s friends and family like to dance, and they kept the dance floor active though out the evening. Even before dinner was served. Congratulations, Veronica and J.P.! Thanks so much for including me.

Aunt Ruth - Great Pictures JP & Veronica you looked amazing. I am so glad you two are so happy together.November 3, 2010 – 6:57 am

Ashley and Eric

I get nervous before all my shoots. But photographing a photographer you regularly get inspiration from is terrifying. Luckily, I had so much fun with Ashley and Eric that I forgot I was supposed to be scared. We wandered around Shelburne Farm as the sun went down and made it back to the storefront in time to get a bag of cider donuts. Those things will change your life. Look for Ashley and Eric on the blog again in the spring. I’ll be documenting their wedding in Tuscany (yes, the one in Italy!). And I’ll get nervous all over again.
